Well-known philanthropist Alex Von Furstenberg makes yet another endowment to another organization in California. Through his foundation The Diller – von Furstenberg Family Foundation, he gave away a grant amounting to $10,000 to the American Tall Ship Institute. The non-profit educational institution is located in Oxnard and is focused on the state’s youth. Captain Stephen founded the institute in 2007. Part of the institution’s goals is to help kids ages 9 – 18. According to Taylor, the institute aims to encourage the youth to become more proactive in community building, through a curriculum-based and environmentally-sound programs. The American Tall Ship Institute empowers the youth through the use of ships as vessels for learning. To achieve its goals, ATSI has also tapped various partners such as school districts, youth service organizations and gang intervention programs.
Even with his busy schedule, Alex Von Furstenberg still remains active in philanthropic work as evidenced by this latest grant, especially in the area of Southern California. In the said locale, Von Furstenberg is always in contact with organizations as a sign of his continued support for educational and environmental projects. Another good example of this is his recent pledge of support for an environmental organization called Heal the Bay. Von Furstenberg is also active in helping groups, like Surfer’s Healing, to organize day camps for the kids. This organization promotes ocean awareness for various children’s causes. The foundation’s commendable endeavours appear to be in good shape, especially with Von Furstenberg serving as the group’s Director and Secretary.
